What is psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune skin condition that causes rapid skin cell turnover, leading to red, scaly, itchy, or painful patches of skin. It can affect the scalp, elbows, knees, trunk, nails, and sometimes the joints (psoriatic arthritis).
Thickened, red plaques with silvery scale, itching, burning, or cracking skin and common features of this chronic condition. Psoriasis has periods of remission followed by relapse. Flares may be triggered by stress, illness, diet, or hormonal changes.
Psoriasis is more than a skin condition
While conventional treatments often focus on symptom suppression, psoriasis is increasingly understood as a systemic inflammatory condition, influenced by immune signaling, gut health, stress physiology, and metabolic health.
I’m Norelle Hentschel, a degree-qualified Naturopath in Brisbane with a clinical focus on integrative skin health. I help people with psoriasis work towards calmer, less reactive skin, with the aim of reducing flare frequency and supporting longer periods of remission.
I’ve been in clinical practice since 2015, supporting hundreds of people with psoriasis using evidenced-based diet modification with nutritional and herbal medicine support where appropriate. I enjoy empowering my patients through education.
I work collaboratively with GPs and dermatologists and always consider medication safety.

How naturopathy can support psoriasis
Holistic naturopathic care works alongside medical management, playing a valuable role in supporting immune balance, reducing systemic inflammation, and improving skin resilience.
Rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all protocol, I focus on understanding why your psoriasis is flaring.
A naturopathic approach may support psoriasis management by –
🌿 Supporting inflammatory and immune pathways
🌿 Identifying dietary or lifestyle triggers
🌿 Improving gut and metabolic health
🌿 Supporting nutrient status linked to skin repair
🌿 Addressing stress and nervous system regulation
My goal is to help you gain better control over flare‑ups, reduce severity, and support long‑term skin health.
Naturopathic care focuses on evidence-informed support for immune balance and inflammation, including nutrition, stress modulation and gut health pathways.
An Evidence‑Informed Psoriasis Support Framework
Your holistic naturopathic care plan is tailored to you and includes
👉🏻 Identifying triggers and root drivers
Psoriasis triggers vary widely and may include
- Chronic stress or nervous system dysregulation
- Inflammatory or highly processed diets
- Alcohol or specific food sensitivities
- Gut health imbalances
- Hormonal changes or poor sleep [1]
We take a detailed case history to understand your unique pattern.
👉🏻 Anti‑Inflammatory Nutrition Support
Nutrition plays a key role in inflammatory skin conditions. Where appropriate, we may focus on:
- Increasing omega‑3 rich foods [2]
- Supporting blood sugar balance
- Reducing ultra‑processed and pro‑inflammatory foods [3]
- Ensuring adequate protein and micronutrients for skin repair
Dietary changes are practical, realistic, and personalised—not restrictive fads.
👉🏻 Gut–Skin Axis Support
Emerging research highlights the connection between gut health, immune signalling, and skin inflammation [4].
Support may include
- Improving digestive function
- Supporting gut barrier integrity
- Addressing dysbiosis when relevant
👉🏻 Targeted Nutritional & Herbal Support
Where clinically appropriate, evidence‑based supplements or herbal medicines may be used to support:
- Inflammatory pathways
- Immune modulation
- Skin barrier function
- Stress resilience
All recommendations are tailored to your health history, medications, and current treatments.
👉🏻 Stress & Nervous System Regulation
Stress is a well‑recognised trigger for psoriasis flares [5].
We incorporate strategies to support:
- Nervous system balance
- Sleep quality
- Stress resilience
Small, sustainable changes can make a meaningful difference over time.
This framework is informed by current research and clinical guidelines (see references below).

This approach may be suitable if you:
- Experience frequent or severe psoriasis flares
- Want to reduce reliance on short‑term symptom control alone
- Are looking for whole‑body, preventative support

Frequently asked questions about naturopathy and psoriasis
Content is informed by clinical research on psoriasis and inflammatory skin conditions, and reviewed by a qualified naturopath.
Can a naturopathy cure psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic condition with a strong genetic and immune component. Naturopathic care aims to support symptom management, reduce flare frequency, and improve quality of life, not claim a cure.
What proportion of your caseload is psoriasis?
The bulk of my caseload is supporting people with chronic skin conditions and of that around 30% on average would be psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
How long before I see results with naturopathic psoriasis treatment?
This varies between individuals. Some patients notice early changes within 4–8 weeks, while others require a longer-term approach (3-6 months) depending on severity, medications, and underlying drivers.
Can I use naturopathy alongside medical psoriasis treatments?
Yes. Naturopathic care can be used alongside conventional treatments. I always consider medication safety and coordinate care with your dermatologist and medical team where needed. I have experience supporting patients who are also taking biologics and DMARDs.
Do you offer online consultations?
Yes — online gut health consultations are available Australia-wide. ** Due to insurance restrictions, I can’t consult with anyone outside of Australia.
What are your qualifications?
I hold an undergraduate Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) and a post graduate Master of Advanced Naturopathic Medicine. I am a professional member of the Australian Naturopathic Practitioners Association (ANPA) which requires me to hold all appropriate insurances and complete on-going professional development education to ensure my care aligns with current best practice.
How much does a naturopathic psoriasis consultation cost?
Consultation fees are transparent and available before booking. Fees are for consults only. Any products purchased from the dispensary are an additional cost.
The current consultation fees can be found on the Book a consult page. Naturopathy is not covered by Medicare. Some private health insurance funds offer rebates for Naturopathy. Check with your fund for details.
If you want more information before booking I also offer a free Discovery Call.
How much do supplements and herbal medicines cost as part of a psoriasis treatement plan?
Costs will be dependent on your individual circumstances and needs. I adhere to ethical prescribing guidelines and recommend the least number of supplements for the shortest amount of time. Often supplements are used in the beginning of treatment to support flare reduction and a return to skin health. Maintenance treatment focus on diet and lifestyle habits to support skin health going forward with specific plans to help manage flares.
Costs of supplements and herbal medicines are clearly outlined during your consult and there is no obligation to purchase supplements as part of your treatment plan.
All supplements recommended by naturopaths at Your Remedy Naturopathy are registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods to ensure quality and safety.
What does your follow up structure look like and how many appointments will I need?
After the initial consultation, regular (30-minute) review sessions are recommended. The frequency of these depends on your individual circumstances.
Often at the beginning they are more frequent (every 4-8 weeks) and over time they decrease to every (6-12 months).
I usually schedule reviews after your dermatologist/medical specialist session so we can incorporate feedback/medication changes from them into your treatment plan to ensure your naturopathic care is still appropriate for you.
