What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic, relapsing and remitting skin condition that affects the nose, cheeks, forehead, and, in some cases, the eyes. It often manifests between the ages of 30 and 50 and is seen in both men and women, although women are three times more likely to be affected. There is a long-standing misconception that rosacea only affects people with fair skin tones; however, individuals with darker skin tones are equally affected. The characteristic “flush and blush” is more difficult to see in darker skin tones, which can lead to a missed diagnosis.
